Synthetic Fiber Packing
PTFE treated synthetic fiber packings for general chemical, pulp and paper, and utility service on rotary and reciprocating pumps, mixers, and valves. Four styles from economical square braid to KEVLAR corner reinforced INTER-LOCK braid.
Synthetic fiber packings are the everyday workhorses of the plant: economical, easy to install, and forgiving of worn equipment. The yarns are treated with PTFE throughout the braid and lubricated for a fast break-in, so the packing seals quickly and resists chemical attack without contaminating the process.
Anchor Seals Inc. stocks four synthetic styles. Style 1334 is the general service chemical packing, 1338K adds KEVLAR corners for abrasive and high pressure service, 1333 combines abrasion resistant and high temperature yarns, and 313 is a soft, economical square braid for older equipment. All are available by the spool or as pre-cut rings.
Four Synthetic Styles
Why Synthetic Fiber Packing
PTFE treated throughout the braid so every void is sealed against chemical attack.
Light break-in lubricant applied under pressure for fast run-in.
Contamination free, so it suits pulp and paper, food adjacent, and chemical service.
Style 1338K KEVLAR corners resist abrasion and extrusion in extreme dynamic service.
Style 313 adapts to out of tolerance boxes, worn bearings, and scored shafts on older equipment.
Available by the spool or as pre-cut rings.

| Style # | Description | Construction | Service | Temperature | pH | Shaft Speed | Pressure (psig) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1334 | A proprietary blend of non-asbestos fiber with each strand treated with PTFE throughout the packing structure. Light break-in lubricant is applied under pressure to improve run-in properties. All voids in the packing structure are sealed for better resistance to chemical attack. Abrasion resistant yarns for longer packing life and less down time. Contamination free. | INTER-LOCK Braid | General service chemical packing for rotating and reciprocating pumps, mixers, agitators, and valves. Recommended for pulp and paper mill applications, recovery pumps, chemical applications, and caustic soda. | +500°F | 2-12 | 2000 fpm | 500 |
| 1338K | A highly durable, non-contaminating packing, created by PTFE saturation plus corner braiding of abrasion resistant KEVLAR aramid fibers. | INTER-LOCK Braid | Excellent choice for extreme dynamic sealing environments. Can be utilized with acids, alkalis, most gases, petroleum and synthetic oils, steam, aromatic and aliphatic solvents, water and salt solutions, and many slurries. | -170°F to +500°F | 3-12 | 1900 fpm | 500 |
| 1333 | A combination of abrasion resistant and high temperature yarns makes this product a step above most general purpose packing. INTER-LOCK construction allows the product to be used at high speeds. | INTER-LOCK Braid | General service on rotary and reciprocating equipment. Recommended for mild acids, alkalis, steam, brine, chemicals, and oils. | +500°F | 3-10 | 1800 fpm | 300 |
| 313 | Square braided, lubricated and graphited throughout its cross section. A relatively soft style of synthetic organic polymer fiber packing. Economical to use, easy to install, and adapts to out of specification tolerances caused by worn bearings or scored shafts on older equipment. | Square Braid | Widely used in reciprocating, rotary, and valve applications for a variety of media. | -170°F to +500°F | 4-10 | 1500 fpm | 300 |

Frequently Asked Questions
All Mechanical PackingsWhich synthetic style is the best general purpose choice?
Style 1334 is the general service chemical packing for most rotating and reciprocating pumps, mixers, agitators, and valves, rated to 500°F, 2000 fpm, and 500 psig across pH 2 to 12. Start there unless the service is abrasive, very old equipment, or outside that range.
When should I step up to Style 1338K?
Use 1338K where the shaft sees abrasive media, slurries, or high pressure. The KEVLAR aramid corners resist extrusion and abrasion while the PTFE saturated body keeps the packing non-contaminating and chemically resistant.
Why choose Style 313 on older equipment?
Style 313 is softer than the INTER-LOCK styles and is graphited throughout, so it conforms to worn stuffing boxes, out of tolerance bearings, and scored shafts where a firmer packing would leak. It is also the most economical of the four.
Are these packings contamination free?
Yes. Styles 1334 and 1338K are formulated to be contamination free, which is why they are recommended for pulp and paper mill service. Style 313 is graphited, so use 1334 or 1338K where graphite carryover is a concern.
