Gasket Sheeting · Specification Table

Compressed Non-Asbestos
Specification Table

Service application, maximum and continuous temperature, pressure, and compressibility for all twelve compressed non-asbestos gasket sheeting styles.

See our Compressed Non-Asbestos Gasket Sheeting product descriptions for more details on each style. Anchor Seals Inc. can supply customized, pre-cut gaskets from any of our sheeting materials.

Maximum temperature is the short term peak the sheet will survive. Continuous temperature is the rating to design to. Styles 15 and 2000 carry separate ratings by atmosphere, which are labeled in the table.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Descriptions

What is the difference between maximum and continuous temperature?

Maximum temperature is the short term peak the sheet can survive. Continuous temperature is the rating for steady operation and is the figure to design to. Style ST-706 steam sheet, for example, peaks at 1000°F but is rated 750°F continuous.

Why do Styles 15 and 2000 list several temperatures?

Graphite is limited by oxidation, not by melting, so its rating depends on the atmosphere around the gasket. Both styles are rated 1200°F in steam. Style 15 reaches 5400°F in reducing or inert media and 900°F in air, and Style 2000 is rated -400°F to 1750°F in inert media and -400°F to 900°F in oxidizing media.

What does the compressibility figure mean?

Compressibility is how much the sheet thickness reduces under a standard load. A low figure such as 7 to 17 percent means a firm sheet for high bolt loads and pressure. A high figure such as 25 to 40 percent means a soft sheet that conforms to rough, warped, or low load flanges.

What do the Style 15 grade letters mean?

Style 15 flexible graphite is supplied with a 316 stainless steel reinforcement: Grade BSSC has a foil insert, Grade BSC a wire insert, and Grade BTCSS a tanged insert. The insert adds handling strength and blowout resistance for higher pressure flanges.
