Metal Retaining Rings Disclosure
Retaining rings must be used with all elasto-metric expansion joints. They are installed behind and directly against the inner face of each of the rubber flanges at both ends of the joint. They provide a metal surface to distribute the bolting pressure around the flange and prevent the bolts from damaging the rubber flange when tightened. Retaining rings are normally made of 1020 steel with corrosion-resistant coating. Galvanized or stainless rings are available on special order.
